Tony Bennett: MTV Unplugged: CD

MTV Unplugged caught Tony Bennett at the heart of his '90s revival, when a crooner who had been singing since the 1950s suddenly found a whole new generation listening. The Astoria, Queens singer, with Columbia since 1950, recorded this live set at Sony Studios in New York on April 12, 1994, with the Ralph Sharon Trio behind him. k.d. lang joins him on “Moonglow” and Elvis Costello on “They Can't Take That Away From Me,” and the set list runs through the classic standards “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Old Devil Moon” and his signature “I Left My Heart In San Francisco.” It's warm, intimate vocal jazz from one of the great voices of American song.
