The Band: The Best Of The Band: CD

The Band grew out of Ronnie Hawkins' backing group, The Hawks, and went on to reinvent American roots music. Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm blended Americana, folk, rock, R&B and country into a sound that influenced everyone from George Harrison to Elton John.

This Capitol best-of has the essentials: “The Weight,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Stage Fright” and “Life Is A Carnival.” Folk rock at its most soulful.
