For a snapshot of hip-hop, rap done right, start with Blowfly On Tour '86 by Blowfly (1996). Blowfly is the stage name and alternate persona of Clarence Reid (born February 14, 1939 in Cochran, Georgia; died January 17, 2016 in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida), who was a songwriter for many hit R&B acts in the 1960s and 1970s.
You'll hear plenty of electronic in the mix. It's the kind of find that makes digging worth it.
