Details
Before Hayward's own Spice 1 became one of the most feared voices in Bay Area gangsta rap, this was the record that introduced him. Robert Lee Greene Jr. was born in Texas but came up in the East Bay, where Too Short took notice, and his 1992 self-titled debut on Jive/Triad helped put the Bay's hard-edged hip-hop, rap sound on the national map. It carries “Welcome to the Ghetto,” “In My Neighborhood” and “187 Proof.” Spice 1 produced, performed and wrote it himself, with additional production by Ant Banks, SKI & DMT and Black Jack. The Jive and Triad logos are on the packaging, and the back is marked (P)1991, 1992 & (C)1992 Zomba Recording Corporation.
