Details
Spooks took their name from Sam Greenlee's 1969 novel The Spook Who Sat by the Door, which tells you plenty about where their heads were at. The group had Philadelphia roots and lived around New York City and Jersey City. They found bigger success in Europe than at home, mostly thanks to the hit “Things I've Seen.” S.I.O.S.O.S. Volume One (2000, Antra/Artemis) is thoughtful, conscious hip-hop, rap with a soulful edge. Odyssey and Rick Dahrouge are among the producers, and the album includes “Things I've Seen,” “Sweet Revenge” and “Karma Hotel.”
