Ann Peebles' 1992 comeback on Bullseye Blues/Rounder Records finds the Hi Records soul legend in fine form, returning to the raw Memphis-influenced sound that made her a legend. Her signature song "I Can't Stand The Rain" — later sampled by Wu-Tang, Talib Kweli's Reflection Eternal, and interpolated by Missy Elliott — closes the album with authority. "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" was also sampled by Sunz of Man. A strong and satisfying return from one of soul music's most influential and underappreciated voices.
