B.M.W. (Brothas Most Wanted) from Montbello, Denver, Colorado returned in 1992 with Gangstas From The Underground, their most politically charged and lyrically ambitious release. The album was so impactful on the underground scene that it reportedly drew a congratulatory call from Rap-A-Lot Records' J. Prince — who notably used the same sample as B.M.W.'s "Marked 4 Death" on the intro and outro of the 1993 Geto Boys album Till Death Do Us Part. Combining hardcore gangsta lyricism with political commentary, street reality, and hard G-funk/gangsta funk production, this is one of the most slept-on albums of the era and an essential piece of Denver rap history.
