This Pilz CD brings together ballet-suite selections from The Nutcracker and Swan Lake by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, listed here as Peter I. Tschaikowsky. Swan Lake premiered in Moscow in 1877, while The Nutcracker dates to 1892; both became enduring works in the ballet repertoire. The listed program includes the Nutcracker dances “Danse Russe Trepak,” “Danse Arabe,” and “Danse Chinoise,” along with “Valse Des Fleurs,” followed by scene and dance selections associated with Swan Lake. These excerpts offer an orchestral introduction to two of the composer's best-known ballet scores.
