Inoj/Lathaun: Love You Down/Freak It: CD Single

Some hip-hop, rap singles fade into the background. Love You Down/Freak It by Inoj (1997) is not one of them. Ayanna Porter, better known by her stage name Inoj, is an American singer and songwriter. Her two Miami bass cover versions in 1997 and 1998, debut single "Love You Down" and "Time After Time", reached No. 25 and No. 6 in the United States, respectively. "Love You Down" is the title of an R&B song written by Melvin Riley Jr. Riley's former band, Ready for the World, originally recorded the song in 1986 and released it as the lead single from their second album, Long Time Coming produced by Gary Spaniola. A slow jam, "Love You Down" was a hit on the Billboard pop and R&B charts, spending two weeks atop the R&B chart in December 1986 and peaking at No. 9 on the pop chart in early 1987.

It leans into bass music in all the right places. Charles Roane, Jonathan Smith and Paul Lewis handled production, with Da Brat joining in on features. Don't let this one get away.
