Up for the Down Stroke is Parliament's second album, originally released in 1974 as the band's first album for Casablanca Records. Produced by George Clinton, it reunited him with bassist Bootsy Collins and featured contributions from keyboardist Bernie Worrell and guitarist Eddie Hazel, helping establish the ensemble sound associated with P-Funk. The title track became Parliament's first chart hit, while “Testify,” “The Goose,” and “All Your Goodies Are Gone” revisited material from the Parliaments' earlier vocal-group years. This eight-track CD presents the album on Polygram Records, connecting Clinton's earlier repertoire with the developing Parliament sound in a compact program that closes with “Presence of a Brain.”
