Details
Stanley Clarke, born in Philadelphia in 1951, made the electric bass a lead voice in jazz fusion. On If This Bass Could Only Talk (1988, Portrait) he lets it do exactly that. He produced, arranged and wrote it, mixing jazz-funk muscle with real tenderness.
It includes a reading of Mingus's “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,” plus “I Want To Play For Ya,” “Workin' Man” and “Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun).” The back is marked (P)(C)1988 CBS Records Inc.
