Angela Winbush's 1994 self-titled Elektra Records album is a criminally overlooked gem of mid-'90s R&B. A one-woman powerhouse — writing, producing, and playing on much of the record — Winbush delivers some of her most dynamic and soulful work here. Highlights include the funky bass-heavy "Treat U Rite," a stunning cover of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues," the silky "Keep Turnin' Me On," and a gorgeous duet with former husband Ronald Isley on "Baby Hold On." On par with Aretha, Gladys, and Patti in terms of raw vocal artistry.
