A strong 20-track career retrospective covering Al Wilson's recordings for the Bell-distributed Rocky Road label. Wilson was a deeply underrated soul singer with a remarkably versatile voice, and this 1996 Wize Buy Records compilation documents him at his best — with production from Johnny Rivers, Johnny Bristol, and Steve Cropper lending serious credibility throughout. Highlights include several Billboard charting singles and a surprisingly searing take on Creedence's "Born On The Bayou." Essential for fans of early '70s soul.
