The Rhythm of the Saints is Paul Simon's eighth solo studio album, released by Warner Bros. Records in October 1990. Following Graceland, Simon explored Brazilian musical traditions, building many of the songs around layered percussion patterns. The opening song, “The Obvious Child,” features the Salvador, Bahia ensemble Olodum, whose playing he recorded after encountering the group in Brazil. The album reached No. 4 on the U.S. album chart and No. 1 in the United Kingdom, and earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Producer of the Year. This ten-track CD also includes “The Coast,” “Proof,” “Born at the Right Time,” and “Spirit Voices,” bringing together an album shaped by rhythm and Simon's songwriting.
