Details
Long before the bins got picked over, Mandrill gave us The Best Of Mandrill (1974) — a soul and funk album worth tracking down. Mandrill is an American soul and funk band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 1968 by the Panamanian-born brothers Carlos, Lou, and Ric Wilson. AllMusic called them "[o]ne of funk's most progressive outfits... [with an] expansive, eclectic vision."
Alfred Brown, Beau Ray Fleming and Mandrill worked the boards, and you can hear the care in every track. It's the kind of find that makes digging worth it.
